The Blog 3- Catch 22

Without experience you can't get a job and without a job you can't get experience---------Catch 22
This is the most influential book to me after I came to America.  Catch 22 is a novel by the American author Joseph Heller. It was published in 1961.

During  World War ||,  a U.S. Air Forces  based is on the island of Pianosa in the Mediterranean Sea west of Italy.  By general rules, pilots can go back to their native country after 22 flights. Unfortunately, Colonel Kasikate always wants to improve his position who constantly increases the mission over the regular rules. Pilots get phobic and crazy. The bombardier, You Seen gets  more intense and anxious. He find a medic to label him crazy. The medic tells him that pilots can be exempted form flight by the air forces Regulation 22, but also provides that the application must be made by personally. If a person fills out,  he proves that he is not go mad.  Because the person is that concerns for his own safety. This proves that his brain is not bad. So the regulation is a fool's trap. When the pilots risk their lives for the war, commanders are busy with politics and do business for money. You Seen witnesses all these unfair and cruel reality. In the end, he escapes to neutral Sweden with his companions encouraging.

Catch 22 is the first book, also is only book that I've read after I came to America. It is a modern literary genre of dark humor. The novel is full of chaotic, noisy, crazy atmosphere, But the traditional realism technique deeply attracts readers. The author uses metaphors in the novel, describes American Air Forces by referring to American bureaucracy, form its chaos, unfair and corrupt.  This dark humor novel lets me know more about America and gives me a very deep impression.

Meditations is a philosophy book by Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Describes Marcus Aurelius's true feeling during the restrain chaotic world, and the pursuit of a desire to claim with his own dialogue.
Before I was an impetuous person, now I have been getting calm after reading this book. I have not finished yet this book, but it is worth  always having it.

In 1992, I asked Bill Clinton, In addition to the "Bible" which book influence him most. He little thought a moment, replied:" Mark Aurelius's  Meditations".

Blog2- Media Impact

The most controversial juvenile cases in British history: Two 10 year old boies, cruelly killed a two year old boy with a brick and iron block 11 years ago. The two murderers sat prison for 8 eight years and were released four years ago. In order to prevent reprisals after their release, the British government secretly arranged new identities and jobs for them. One of them loved violent movie, cartoons and video games, a devil boy especially impressed that boy. In fact, he imaged that he was a devil when he killed the 2 year old boy.

People can be stimulated by video games or movies in order to fill a psychological emptiness. Violent games and movies have  powerful affects on  minorities who don't have a complete world view.

Even though, some films are restricted to over 16 year old, the content of movie is more and less affecting people. A violent cartoon TV show "HAPPY TREE FRIENDS", created in 1999,  is a great controversial because it does not have any rating. There is a very small and hidden reminder, but people still can get any episode on line. There are 13 lovely cartoon characters. One or more characters would have a violent murdering and a cruel death  in each two minutes episode.

This TV show has gained a lot followers and become very popular around the world. Teenagers download it to their  Iphone, Ipad or laptop. Then the company produces many different types of merchandis of  the 13 cartoon characters design, operate horizontal integration, and win a huge economic benefits from it. This business is successful, but who considers the teenagers?

certainly media is not a direct factor of crime, but it has  powerful capacity to affect perception of audience. The cultivation theory and The Agenda- Setting Theory prove media will shape and distort how people view the world, and influence what they think about and your perceive  of what is important. They both confirm media is not direct factor of crime, but  has a big percentage to increase the probability of crime.

Media Autobiography

Hi, here is Niz, from Spain. I am a chinese. I've been in America for one year. So I want to know more about American culture and media system.

I graduated in Beijing International Studies University, my major is Journalism. And I got a master on Journalism of editing. Then I worked in Television D.P of  the Spanish national news Agency for 3 years. My job was about interview popular people, video recording and editing, and catch news on.

I used to be follow three important news. One is spanish workers socialist party won the 2008 general election. Our agency stood for the People's party, which is the another big party of Spain, lost the vote with 40%. after the general election, I went to follow the news of 2008 World Expo in Zaragoza.  I stayed in the strange city with 88 constructers for 7 months, and got the news from developing until the end of exhibit halls demolished. I also engaged in spanish soccer news and helped The Real Madrid to promote.

A journalist career is not easy to do. People have to possess a combination of the latest newsletter, wide  knowledge, ability of news observing, agile reaction, good communication and a literary talent.

I probably to apply a master on Mass Communication in SJSU for my few local knowledge and culture.
So The Mass Media class will be a perfect pre- courses.
